dc.description.abstract The overconsumption of energy sources has been identified as a significant problem across the globe, especially in the urban regions. This has contributed to the critical problem of release of greenhouse gases into the environment and thereby causing pollution. Thus, it has been the endeavour of the international community to reduce energy consumption for attaining long term sustainability. This study seeks to evaluate the heating and cooling loads of different regions such as Kuwait, Bangkok, and Ulsan to determine the load requirements based on climatic conditions of these regions. It identifies various problems in construction industries across the world due to which excessive consumption of energy occurs. The study aims to identify the reasons for excessive cooling and heating loads, suggest alternatives to reduce loads and thereby decrease consumption, and to make the buildings more efficient in the consumption of energy. By doing so, this study envisages the objective of reducing the greenhouse gas emission in the environment. The study further finds that the determination of the load requirement at the stage of designing by using the appropriate tools will help the minimization of energy consumption. Similarly, it also finds that use of insulation can be an effective way of reducing the impact of heat on buildings. The study suggests the use of the systems such as EnergyPlus and OpenStudio for computer simulation for the determination of accurate energy loads. -
