Because of the insufficiency of resources on the coast, FPSO, one of the marine structures, has been continuously developed for obtaining of the resource such as natural gas and oil in deep sea. It is really difficult to be supplied external professional engineers and related parts on the emergency situation under construction on deep sea. Therefore, all equipment must be made strongly from the beginning of design.
Fuel gas compression system(FGCS), which is installed on FPSO reuses natural gas or boiled off gas etc. in fuel gas tank. The compressed gas by high pressure in the tank is delivered to pipe line by strong pressure expanded instantaneously from pressure difference. Such an effect is called the surge phenomenon. Consequently, it is necessary to be installed the valve which is composed of important factors as verifying of structural integrity from the beginning of design.
In this study, the structural analysis was carried out to verify the structural integrity of the three types of valves which is applied to FGCS. And the algorithm for performing simple computation concerning the flow rate was made by using excel sheet. The valve against surging phenomenon was stable in all cases considered in structural strength, the flow rate compared with the numerical results with fluid analysis results, but did not compare with experiments, so flow rate results was not guaranteed.
The Unigraphics NX 4.0 was used to create three dimensional model and ANSYS Wrokbench 12.0 was used to carry out the structural analysis. Also, ANSYS CFX 12.1 was applied to calculate the flow rate in valves.
