- Abstract
- Outsourcing of the logistics function to third party logistics (3PL) firms has grown dramatically over the Iast several years. Many manufacturing and ratail firms see these operayions as an outside resource to be managed as part of the extended organization.
More and more organizations worldwide want to develop products for global markets. At the same time, they need to source material globally to be competitive. One of today's trends to solve this problem is outsourcing requirements.
Organizations have developed strategic alliances with third-party logistics companies all over the workd to manage their logistics operations network. These alliances are also known as logistics or supply chain outsourcing and contract logistics.
The purpose of study was to propose a activity plan of third party logistic in Korea, by examining the current status of Korean and overseas third party logistics. For this, the investigator conducted a questionnaire survey og goods holders in order to find out whether or not they used the third party logistics and what was their expectation for it. In addition, the investigator analyzed what influence there was in the factors of selection of the third party logistics and the functional outsourcing of logistics.
As for the expected effect of the third party logistics, there are a cistomer service improvement, a reduction of goods-flow-related cost, and the enhancement of operational efficiency and concentration of core ability of goods flow activities. On the other hand, as for the problems of the third party logistics, there are a concern for the outward leakage of internal information of a company, an insufficient customer service due to the impossibility of immediate tackling of customer complaints owing to limited direct contact with customers, and the existing logistics companies resistance against changes generated by using the third party logistics.
As the environment of logistics and distributions changes and companics are restructured, Koream domestic business cntities are recently concerming very much about the outsourcing of logistics. Since Korean domestic manufacturers and distributors recogniza the outsourcing of logistics positively, the market of outsourcing of logistics expectedly grows repidly in the future. Therefore, the third party logistics is a highly value-adding industry and its growth potential is seemingly enormous. However, current status of the third party logistics in Korea cannot get out of the stage of introduction. So it is imminent to prepare a activity plan of it in the aspects of customers, suppliers, and government.
