With the rising cost of manufacturing in the developed world, companies are increasingly looking for lower cost to manufacture. Surfing board manufacturing at the lower end of the scale is low tech, labour intensive, environmentally friendly and crucially, low cost and easy to start up. This makes it an ideal industry that has abundance for labour and high-tech manufacturing machines, giving rise to a developing industry in Korea.
Most surfboards are built one at a time in small surfboard shops. Although techniques and materials vary from one surfboard builder to another but most surfboards have been individually designed and hand crafted by talented surfboard builders. Over the last four decades, boards have gotten shorter, then longer, then shorter again. One fm was followed by two fins, then three fins, as builders tried different designs to improve the board's ability to perform maneuvers. Some board builders used channels cut lengthwise along the bottom to improve stability. The increasing cost of sea freight due the strength of global trade is another factor encouraging new manufacturers as considerable savings in cost and delivery time can be made by manufacturing regionally.
In this paper, the localization of a surfboard as the early stages development of surfing board using 3D CAD systems to perform design evaluation and configuration. The environmental conditions of the surf board and the user's physical condition are the most vital factors to consider when designing a surf board. Therefore, the improvement of surfboard design modifications is predictable.
The surf board is modeled using Unigraphics and modified accordingly to optimize time to resolve design integration and development of surfboard. Structural and fluid dynamics at various angles of surfboard shape characteristics was studied using commercial CFD (Computational Fluid dynamics) code, ANSYS CFX. Structural strength stability of the surface board was analysed to maximum forces whereas the fluid dynamic analysis were performed at numerous angles were with close proximity to real sea and domestic environmental conditions.
