- Abstract
- The object of this study is to present (1) to investigate method for the configuration(location, depth, amount, waste disposal distribution) of the artificial reefs by means of high-technology apparatuses including Side Scan Sonar, Multi-beam Echo Sounder, and DGPS, as well as diving survey technology, (2) how to arrange and utilize the results obtained after the investigation, (3) and thus how to arrange the systematic post management of the artificial reefs. To evaluate the proposed method the facility quantity within a reef unit was examined so as to estimate the number of densely distributed reef unit facility. The results are as follows:
To locate the artificial reefs, the whole area of see should be investigated through Side Scan Sonar first, and then based on the result, the exact location and the total volume of the artificial reefs will be examined by means of Multi-beam Echo Sounder.
To calculate the exact volume and height of the artificial reefs, the data obtained by Side Scan Sonar and Multi-beam Echo Sounder should be compared.
The quantity within a reef unit was examined so as to estimate the number of densely distributed reef unit facilities. The results are follows: the volume measured by Multi-beam Echo Sounder was 952.92m3, and the quantity of reefs measured by diving survey was 95, so the coefficient k turned out to be 0.8.
Diving investigation within 40m depth was taken utilizing the depth of water data obtained by Multi-beam Echo Sounder. During the diving investigation, always paying attention to safety, we should check the facility state of artificial reefs by an underwater video camera, the condition of the surrounding area and distributed forms of life(by the square-shaped lens or close-up picture taking, or with the naked eye), and the distribution of waste(the location of waste of all directions from the center of reefs). After this survey, we should be describe the fishing net, trap entangled in artificial reef and make the table of the waste quantity.
The track and area chart of investigation should be made in order to understand the location easily. We made the form to visualize the information of facility state of each observation site, and reef unit as well as 3-dimensional image data, and also the form providing additional information of special area. In addition, the report form of results obtained through diving investigation and the integrated information chart of artificial reefs have been used.
