Abstract

Great concerns for coastal management have been increasing in many countries, because the coastal area has been highly evaluated as the axis of industrial society since 1990's. But, the coastal area has been threatened by many natural disasters and the rising of sea level. Therefore the area should not only be protected from the change of environment, but also studied for a balanced sustainable development.

This study aims to investigate the characteristics of coastal development and management in Korea from an engineering point of view.

Some fruitful results have been obtained through this study.
