dc.description.abstract | In unfavorable circumstance of hardship such as increased investment in compliance with reinforced regulations, decreased freight rate due to overcapacity and raised operation cost due to raised bunker price, strengthening unit cost competitiveness is essential to go without saying. In this study I would like to help many shipping companies through the verification of the these studies taking into account the fact that the application of fuel saving technology in rarely carried out while various unit cost reduction such as fuel saving technology are developed and operated vessels are more than newly built vessels. This study was carried our categorizing technology into three categories such as improvement of ships design/propulsion, vessel’s maintenance and navigation and improvement of Machinery efficiency. First of all, four technologies about hull design and propulsion improvement were studied to be proved out its efficiency of about 7%. Second, regular cleaning of ship's hull and propeller can help save more than 5%, it results in the highest ROI(Return on Investment). Last, while recent market introduces technologies for machinery efficiency, only four technologies were studied to be proved out its fuel saving efficiency of 4.3% In conclusion, we find out it was confirmed to save fuel by 16.3% on Exiting Vessels. Except this study, there are many technologies and the potential saving factors. So we have to endeavor verify their effectiveness. But the problems of measuring equipment, insufficiency of energy management system and problems of crew change management sincerely need to be rectified. Shipping companies should aim to improve competence and development along with not only being carriers but advanced energy saving in order to lead green technology as end user. In addition, shipping companies need active response and need to acknowledge that how well respond to reinforcement of the regulation for shipping industry, deterioration of industry circumstance and intense completion is the key for survival. Finally, shipping companies should have obligation for voluntary energy saving and environment protection. The ocean is the base of shipping industry close to nature and which should develop along with the nature. With the goal to protect our base, we should have the attitude of leader not follower. | - |
