dc.description.abstract A Study on the Strategies to Strengthen the Business Ethics and the Corporate Competitiveness by Sustainability Management by Bae, Kwang-Jun Department of International Trade Graduate School of Korea Maritime University Abstract This study inquires into advanced research by means of literature survey and NIE and also inquires into the actual conditions of social or corporate management, in order to find desirable ways of enhancing corporate international competitiveness by performance of ethical management and social responsibility activities which have been recently social issues. The Transparency International was founded and Corruption Perceptions Index has been published since 1995. Also, the OECD and the WTO 's anti-bribery treaty on foreign officials was signed in Feb.15 1999. The corruption and ethics rounds were rapidly developed since 2002. Domestically, since the 1997 financial crisis, the interest in the transparency of corporate management and governance has been growing while the social request for the practice of ethical management and the corporate social responsibility activities are increasing. Particularly, our corporations will lose the international competitiveness if not coping actively with the changing international circumstances where corporate social responsibility management is standardized by ISO 26000 series in 2009. Therefore, it is necessary to positively change our perceptions to the practice of corporate ethical management and social responsibility activities. The sustainability management will be made by realizing the spirit of altruistic capitalism through social contribution or donation, culture and nature of company such as profits and job creation. Therefore, it is necessary for the practice of corporate ethical management and the positive paradigm shift of corporate social responsibility activities. And we will be able to carry out the sustainability management by embodying the spirit of creative capitalism or altruistic capitalism through social contributions, culture of donation and corporate nature of profit or job creation For the fulfillment of effective ethical management or corporate social responsibility activities, we will be able to enhance corporate competitiveness at globalized international community by preparing counterstrategy and by putting it into practice on corporation, government and academic bases. In particular, the fact that consumer movement, product liability system, the efforts of stakeholders are required and that the state transparency leads to greater transparency of corporate management, should be kept in mind. Also that all walks of life in society must work hard for building a transparent society and the moral obligation of leadership(Noblesse Oblige) is an important factor, should not be overlooked. The 21st century global economy is moving toward the goal of freedom and justice. The more transparent and fair economic activities are required by the international community. Therefore, the practice of corporate ethical management and the active performance of corporate social responsibility activities has become a source of corporate competitiveness. Only when conventional 'strong enterprise' becomes 'respected enterprise', the corporate competitiveness can be further strengthened, and the corporate growth and development can be ensured. Recently, the social requests for the practice of ethical management and the corporate social responsibility activities is increasing by days and the international management surroundings is also changing rapidly. Particularly, with watching the changing trend of corruption rounds or ethics rounds, the active and organized counterstrategy of Korean enterprises for their survival strategy and international competitiveness improvement is considered necessary. Now, the practice of ethical management and corporate social responsibility activities can be approached on a strategic level for corporate survival rather than on corporate dispensational level. Today, the company's economic liability or legal responsibility is extremely taken for granted. The leading companies have worries more on their active charitable responsibility activities than their performance of social responsibility. That companies are what human society wants. -
