해양소설 『三寶太監西洋記通俗演義』 연구

Abstract

At the end of the Ming dynasty, the theme of The Three Treasures of the Western World(hereinafter referred to as The Western Memory) was created with the complexity of the story of Zheng He. Historically, Zheng He was a notorious significant diplomat and navigator. During the period of Yongle, Zheng He practically led a large number of fleets, nearly 30,000 people, and went to more than 30 western countries for a visit. However in the novel, it described that Zheng He visited more than 40 countries with the help of Jin Bifeng and Zhang Tianshi.

From the previous results of research, it is the most common identity of views to regard The Western Memoryas the category of the magic novel. Definitely, many researchers also have studied The Western Memoryfrom its syntactic structures. While in the recent research, the novelistic genre of ocean consciousness and ocean experience that embodied in this novel has emerged.

This dissertation is unlikely in accordance with the previous research, obviously it is ingeniously classified The Western Memoryas the genre of marine novel. Therefore, the clue of "maritime" is clearly extracted from this novel. In one word, the features of maritime are mentioned here the tremendous nature and property of ocean, included the characters of communication, adventure and aesthetics. The author of this dissertation is not only in line accordance with the four characteristics as the basic framework, but also excavate in the adventure background of this novel and the intensively consideration of western society, including casting of vessels, preparation of the tribute, and navigation experience of ocean, and other related marine contents. Through such a process, it can be proved that The Western Memory would be placed in the category of marine novels.

It is not difficult to find that the author of The Western Memoryactively divides the western countries into the reality countries and the imaginary space. In the novel, Zheng He's fleet on the one hand sails through the real world; on the other hand, he toughly wages a harsh but long fight in unreal space. Continually, the author evidently describes the absurd warlike scenes between gods and devils in the imaginary space. It can be found that The Western Memory not only embodies in the category of the novels of gods and spirits, but also possesses the characteristics of the fiction and illusory. This dissertation would further study and explore whether it can be feasibly classified with the marine novelistic features.| 明末, 羅懋登의 『三寶太監西洋記通俗演義』(이하 『西洋記』로 표기)는 鄭和의 서양원정을 소재로 만든 작품이다. 역사 속 鄭和는 외교가이자 항해가이다. 永樂帝 시기 鄭和는 근 3만 명의 병사를 거느리고 서양 30여 나라를 탐방했다. 그러나 작품 속 鄭和는 金碧峰과 張天師의 조력 하에 서양 40여 나라를 탐방하는 이야기로 구성되어 있다.

기존의 연구성과에서 보면 『西洋記』를 신마소설의 범주로 간주하여 연구하는 경향이 보편적이다. 그리고 『西洋記』 속에서 사용하고 있는 언어와 문구에 대한 연구도 있다. 최근 『西洋記』 속에 들어있는 해양의식과 해양체험담에 대한 연구도 나왔다.

그러나, 본 논문은 기존의 연구와 달리 『西洋記』를 해양소설의 범주로 가정하여 작품 속에 들어있는 ‘해양성’을 추출하고자 한다. 여기서 말하고 있는 ‘해양성’의 특징으로는 섭해성, 복사성(교류성), 모험성 등을 들 수 있다. 본 본문은 ‘해양성’의 다양한 특징 중에서 이 작품 속에 들어있는 모험, 서양에 대한 인식, 출항 준비와 선박건조, 조공물과 다양한 바다체험 등을 통해 해양과 연관된 요소들을 도출해 낸다. 이러한 과정을 통해 『西洋記』를 해양소설의 범주로 간주할 수 있는 여부를 확인한다.

그리고, 작가는 『西洋記』 속 여러 나라들을 실존 공간과 만들어진 가상공간으로 구분하여 서술하고 있다. 함대가 실존 공간을 거의 순조롭게 경과한 반면 만들어진 공간에서는 오랫동안의 전쟁을 진행했다. 만들어진 공간에서 신과 신 사이의 전쟁 또는 신과 요괴 사이에서 진행되는 황당한 전쟁을 다루고 있다. 이러한 서술을 통해 작품은 신마소설이면서 동시에 판타지소설의 특징을 지니고 있다는 것을 발견할 수 있고 나아가 해양소설로 볼 수 있는 근거를 추출할 수 있다.
