- Abstract
- The effect of VIV(vortex-induced vibration) was recently considered significantly in the long slender structure. Nowaday, a strake is used to remove VIV, but that has some disadvantages such as a difficulty in assembling strake with the main frame, a higher cost and the increase of the total weight. Furthermore, it was reported that the strake could induce the heave motion. In this study, the experiment with the circular cylinder covered some string was executed to reduce the side effects. The result from the experiment shows that the string is managed to reduce VIV by removing the lift force.
