Abstract
In order to obtain and maintain competitive advantage, under rapidly changing maritime environment, shipping liner should make efforts to reinforce their service capabilities. Shipping lines should accurately recognize and evaluate their service attributes.

The objective of this study is to identify important factors in choosing liner shipping companies. In the present research, various service attributes for shipping lines were selected from previous studies and the observed data for 5 main service attributes were collected through a questionnaire survey from 40 concerned shipping experts. Moreover, shipping lines' relative service capabilities were measured by an additional survey process.

The results of this study are as follows
Firstly, it is found that the freight rate is the most important factor among the 5 main service attributes, physical service, artificial service, information service and PR. It is very obvious that the freight rate directly effects on saving the logistics cost of the shippers.

Secondly, it is found that the second important factor in choosing liner shipping companies is the physical service and the 3rd is the artificial service. But information service and PR is underestimated comparatively.

Finally, this study shows that the handling of customer request, the reliability of sailing schedule, the image and reputation of companies and the salesman's expertise in the detailed factor is more highly evaluated than other detailed factors.
