셰익스피어 love-tragedies 의 대화코퍼스에 대한 감성분석과 네트워크 분석

Abstract

본 연구는 셰익스피어의 비극 작품들 중 세 편의 사랑 비극 (Romeo and Juliet, Othello, the Moor of Venice, Antony and Cleopatra)에서 모든 등장인물들의 대화코퍼스를 구축하여 Hutto and Gilbert (2014)가 개발한 Valence Aware Dictionary for Sentiment Reasoning (VADER) 감정 분석 사전과 Nalisnick (2013)이 연구에 사용한 기존의 AFINN 감정 분석 사전의 비교를 통해 비극 작품 및 등장인물 간의 대화코퍼스를 감정 분석하고 NetMiner 4.0을 통해 주요 등장인물 간의 네트워크 분석을 하여 주요 등장인물들이 가지는 네트워크가 부정적인지 긍정적인지를 살펴본다. 이러한 비극 작품 및 등장인물 간의 특징을 시간의 흐름에 따른 시간시각화로 살펴보고 이러한 시간시각화에서는 발견할 수 없는 등장인물 간 연결 강도를 네트워크 분석에 따른 관계시각화로 살펴본다. 본 연구를 통해 다음의 네 가지 연구 질문의 답을 찾으려고 하였다. 본 연구는 첫째, 사랑을 주제로 한 비극 대화코퍼스의 감정 분석을 통해 비극의 특징을 보여주는 감정 패턴을 발견 할 수 있는가? 선그래프의 시각화를 통하여 관찰할 수 있는 패턴이 몇 가지가 있는지를 고려한다. 둘째, 감정 분석을 통해 비극과 희극의 차이점을 드러낼 수 있는 패턴 또는 단서가 있는가? 관찰된 사랑 비극의 감정 패턴이 사랑을 주제로 한 희극 세 편 (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, As You Like It)의 감정 패턴과 비교하여 어떤 뚜렷한 차이점이 있는지 살펴본다. 셋째, 본 연구에 사용된 감정 분석 사전인 VADER와 기존 연구의 감정 분석 사전인 AFINN 중 어떤 감정 사전이 감정 분석에 더 적합한가? 사랑 비극의 극의 흐름에 따른 남녀 주인공의 감정 변화의 선그래프 비교를 통해 살펴보고 이를 특정 대사의 누적 값과 해당하는 단어들의 점수를 비교하여 살펴본다. 넷째, 극의 흐름에 따른 남녀 주인공의 감정 변화와 주요 등장인물의 긍정/부정 감정의 변화도 설명 할 수 있는가? 남녀 주인공의 대화코퍼스를 통한 막 별 감정 분석과 주요 등장인물 간의 막 별 감정 변화의 시간시각화와 등장인물 간 연결 관계 네트워크의 관계시각화를 통해 살펴본다. |This study explores a new sentiment analysis of dialogue corpora in Shakespeare's three love tragedies (Othello, the Moor of Venice, Anthony and Cleopatra and Romeo and Juliet). It also investigates sentiment valence of male and female main characters by comparing Valence Aware Dictionary for Sentiment Reasoning (VADER) and AFINN sentiment graphs. Furthermore, it shows some characteristics of major characters through visualizing their sentiment graphs and networks in the three love tragedy plays. Some characteristics of major characters, which cannot be found in sentiment analysis, can be identified by network relationships among major characters visualizing their intensity or strength.

Knowing who is speaking to whom allows the flow of sentiment relationships to be tracked between characters and within plays with clear time-lines. In previous research, Nalisnick (2013) used the AFINN word list for sentiment analysis. My approach employs VADER suggested by Hutto and Gilbert (2014) to calculate the sentiment valences of dialogue corpora. VADER is a model used for text sentiment analysis that represents both positive or negative polarity and intensity (strength) of characters’emotion. In order to visualize the network structures, NetMiner 4.3 tools were used to create sentiment networks connecting each of the major characters.

Here are my four research questions to study my aims:

1. Are there prominent sentiment patterns between three love-tragedy plays and three love-comedy plays?

2. Are there any clues to distinguish tragedy from comedy in the sentiment analysis?

3. Which sentiment dictionary is more adequate for sentiment analysis?

4. How do we find the sentiment relationships between major characters?

This study will contribute to clearly distinguishing and analyzing human relationships described in the text written in English. Moreover, it can be extended to applying this approach to the sentiment relationships in plays, novels, or other registers written in other languages.
