Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse the relative efficiency of 25 Korean ocean-going shipping companies using Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA). DEA is known as an attractive method for evaluating relative efficiency of organizations with multi dimensional inputs and outputs. DEA has been used to analyse the efficiency of organizations such as banks, fliers, ports, terminals in ports, etc. However, there is few study of DEA application for shipping companies. Thus, this paper employed CCR-O model and BCC-O model to evaluate the relative efficiency of 25 Korean ocean-going shipping companies. The DEA efficient ratings can be a useful tool for shipping company owners and the persons concerned to improve inefficient factors.
