Abstract
As the industry of cruise is developing, the number of ships taking a rest at a port in Korea increases every year. Also, there are quite a few ships running in Korea. Unlike this situation, there are few of the study for safety of ships currently. This paper shows that people’s awareness of safety when it is emergency situation using actual cruise ship and the purpose of this paper is to improve the effectiveness of evacuation by organizing problems in emergency.

To organize a virtual situation for emergency, Pyrosim is used for making fires in ship and Available Safe Egress Time is determined. The scenario is divided into a cafeteria on 1st floor, cabin on 1st floor and cabin on 2nd floor according to the location of fires. To calculate Required Safe Egress Time, Maritime EXODUS is used for comparing and assessing both Figs and effectiveness. For studying the factors affecting evacuation time, slope, the number of passengers and the location of passengers is organized differently to examine the major effect by using 27 cases. After that, the scenario of evacuation is designed for making passengers act differently according to 3 types of fires situation. The character of passenger’s moving is designed like the results from the survey mentioned above.

For the development of evacuation effectiveness, Available Safe Egress Time is measured when sprinkler works properly in fires and how improved the effectiveness of evacuation is evaluated making a situation that crew members guide passengers to a safety path in emergency.
