Recently logistics needs in Northeast Asia are remarkably increasing due to rapid growth of China. Therefore, each country is devoting all their energies to develop modern ports in order to accommodate logistics needs. This development has brought about a change of vessel's calling system like a direct calling to a modern Hub-Port, and the effects of change began to be felt in Busan, Korea.
The increasing ratio of containers' handling at Busan is on the decrease step by step, and the first reason of this is not increasing in volume for transshipment cargo from China caused by direct vessels' calling to Hub-port in China. The second reason is development of neighboring ports, for example Kwangyang & Ulsan Port etc., which means that local cargos & transshipment cargos to be handled at Busan Port are shared out among these ports.
Therefore, this study will present ways to raise the competitiveness of Busan relate to increasing handling volumes in container, performimg analysis of logistics aspects in shipping business and investigation of current situation for Busan Port.
In order to raise handling volume to the goal, firstly, the competent authorities produce a good environment like such as top class of port facilities and transportation network for the calling vessel.
Secondly, simplification of customs procedure for import/export cargos and transshipment by system improvement has to be needed.
Finally, introduction of a positive incentive and marketing skills for securing vessels and transshipment cargos by the competent authorities have to be need.
In conclusion, these plans should be executed by competent authorities continuously, and this will guide Busan Port into a prosperous future forever and ever.
